Truly Powerful People Keep Their Cool
Whether in history or in life, it is not difficult to find that many people, they have a strong sense of work ability and enthusiasm, but they always encounter setbacks.
Conversely, some people with mediocre qualifications can live a smooth life and achieve a great career, or they can gain people's hearts.
Throughout the ages, those who achieve great things all have an extraordinary will, that is, when encountering difficulties or falling into trouble, ordinary people may not be able to endure, but they can calm down and persevere.
This kind of powerful people can be attributed to three aspects: calm down, endure, and focus.
01. When things are not going well, calm down.
Elementary school students have all done an experiment: holding a magnifying glass and paper to the sun to make the paper burn.
The same paper, the same magnifying glass, the same sun, some people tried for a long time without success, while some people quickly made the paper burn. The key was whether they had focused the sunlight onto a point.
Dealing with things is the same. We have limited time and limited things we can do. Therefore, when talents are roughly the same, focus determines a person's achievement level.
Life has its ups and downs. When the goal is not achieved, you must remain calm, be patient, wait for opportunities, and continue to work hard. When you encounter setbacks or failures, you must remain calm, maintain a calm attitude, and persevere with willpower.
Confucius said: 'In the cold season, we know the pine and cypress will wither.' Sima Qian spent 18 years writing the 'Records of the Grand Historian,' and Li Zhisheng spent 17 years compiling 'Bencao Gangmu' (New Edition of the Materia Medica).
No matter what industry you are in, without the spirit of diligent study and persistent enthusiasm, it is difficult to reach a high level.
A person's achievements depend on his ability to endure hardship and patience. It's necessary to sit out the cold days and endure the loneliness, and to remain calm.
Calmness is a state of concentrating on things, but we often lack this attitude now. 'Too busy' and 'too much business' are just excuses for being restless.
We don't lack the ability to remain calm, but when faced with boring and monotonous things, it's difficult to endure. Most people like to move the mountain and build the sea, constantly changing and ultimately finding that they are farther from success.
Mencius said: 'When encountering difficulties, reflect on oneself.'
If the current situation doesn't satisfy you, first think about whether you can remain calm.
02. When you have negative emotions, remain calm.
'The Emperor's anger, burying a million corpses, staining a thousand miles with blood. The anger of an ordinary man, burying two corpses and staining five steps with blood.'
When people have negative emotions, they often lose their minds, say things they shouldn't, and do things they shouldn't. This not only harms relationships but also harms business. There have been many historical tragedies caused by 'anger leading to rebellion.'
During the Warring States period, when attacked, he ordered Cao Gu to defend Chang'an.
knew that Cao Gu was brave and impulsive, but he had a tendency to become impatient, so before leaving, he warned him to hold Chang'an. If Liu Bang challenged him, he should be cautious and just defend it.
Naturally, Liu Bang, with Zhang Liang, launched the 'scolding city' strategy, sending troops to the city gates, insulting and drawing cartoons to slander Cao Gu.
Cao Gu, enraged, lost his composure, didn't remain calm, immediately led his troops out of the city.
As the saying goes, using cunning to outsmart a nimble opponent and patiently wait for the opportunity to strike, Liu Bang took advantage of the situation and launched a surprise attack on Cao Gu's army, completely annihilating him. Cao Gu, knowing he couldn't explain himself to Zhang Yi, committed suicide.
A person's maturity has many signs, but the most important one is the ability to control negative emotions. If you don't do something well, it's not because you lack knowledge, but because you can't control your negative emotions.
Everyone has seven emotions and six desires, but if you can remain calm when you experience negative emotions, you can calmly handle contradictions and treat people with respect, and you will naturally achieve good luck and avoid misfortune.
03. When you have urgent matters, remain calm.
During the Qing Dynasty, Zhou Rong was preparing to enter the city of Zhenhai, he ordered a junior to use wooden planks to bundle a large stack of books and follow along.
At that time, the setting sun had fallen, and the smoke from the evening shrouded the trees. He asked the ferryman: 'Is it still possible to arrive at the South Gate before it closes?'
The ferryman carefully looked at the junior and said: 'Walk slowly, the city gate will still be open, and you will miss it if you rush.' Zhou Rong heard this and was slightly angry, thinking that the junior was mocking him, and he immediately retorted.
Just as he was about to speak, the junior stumbled and the bundle of books fell apart, and the books were scattered and tangled. The junior cried and couldn't get up. After tidying up the books and bundling them up, the city gate had already been unlocked.
Zhou Rong commented on himself at the end of the article: 'People lose themselves by being hasty and impatient!'
Many people have the same experience: if you are eager to do something, the thing will fail because of your haste.
Confucius said, 'When encountering difficulties, be calm and serene, and if you are hasty, you will likely make mistakes. Because all things don't come from haste, it's better to be calm and serene.'
Any development has its own rules. You can't be impatient, and you have to do things step by step to do them well. 'The more busy you are, the busier you get, and the more you get into trouble, the more you get into trouble.'
As the proverb says: 'When urgent, be cautious; when slow, be round.'
When you have urgent matters, remain calm, which means you know how to adapt to the situation, how to be prudent, how to be balanced, and how to be cautious. It means to stay away from chaos and disorder.
