Listen to the Present Moment: Acknowledge Thoughts and Feelings of Distress, Accept Body and Emotional Suffering
Mindfulness meditation is about fully accepting yourself in the present moment,
regardless of any physical symptoms, pain, or fears in the mind.
One, learn to listen to the information your body is sending you.
The world has become too fast now, although technology and medical levels are developing at an incredible pace, but human physical diseases are also becoming increasingly diverse.
Even the slightest sneeze, headache or stomach ache, you will rush to the medicine cabinet or pharmacy, in order to quickly eliminate the discomfort of physical illness.
Of course, in most cases, these drugs are very effective, allowing your symptoms to be temporarily relieved, but as the widespread use of drugs, we tend to ignore what the real disease is.
Some may say, if you don't see a doctor or take medicine to get sick, the disease will not get better, and you don't have time to rest every day,
This kind of thinking and living state has become the norm for people. We not only ignore our physical health, but we also become numb to our surroundings and our five senses.
Many wealthy people, except for feeling physically exhausted, cannot feel any happiness, because they are (tsui zhi xu nao) the power of their bodies and ignore the signals their bodies are sending.
In the end, not only are diseases prevalent, but their mental state is anxious and depressed, and they become prone to making mistakes. This kind of living state, even if you have a lot of wealth, your mind and body are impoverished.
You will be very worried, even afraid and depressed, the consequence is just to focus on your symptoms, which is driven by anxiety and self-reflection and thoughts.
We need to better understand our bodies, and mindfulness practice can help you get closer to the feeling of physical symptoms.
Especially when there is pain, chronic illness or fear of death, this requires courage to face and accept your body's symptoms.
The practice of observing the body in meditation is also called 'wise attention,' and 'wise attention' can make you feel stable and calm when you have disease and pain.
You may be aware of your body's symptoms or pain, no matter if it's fear, despair, or retreat, you should try to remain calm and observe all the sensations that arise in your body.
With continuous practice, you can better understand your body's state, and even improve your physical symptoms.
Two, you are not your thoughts, thoughts and emotions.
Meditation can help you receive information from your body.
One of my friends, after practicing meditation for a few weeks, he realized that his headaches were caused by his high-intensity work, and he wanted him to slow down his high-pressure, fast-paced lifestyle.
At first, he thought his headaches were serious, and he didn't listen, so his body gave him ulcers, but he still didn't listen,
Finally, his body caused a mild heart attack, which terrified him, so he started to listen to his body.
However, when you understand this principle and want to explore the headache, you will find that you will have automatic thoughts and judge the sensations in your mind, and it's possible that you will think that meditation is a failure or that meditation won't cure your headache.
I remember once when I was meditating, the whole process was very difficult, with constant thoughts and emotions, and it caused me to have emotional ups and downs, and I suddenly had the thought: 'Today's meditation practice has no effect, let's end it early.'
Immediately, a sense of restlessness and disgust surged, completely disrupting my meditation state, and I ended my meditation in a very bad mood,
What made me turn from a state of calmness to a final state of restlessness is this emotion change, and this emotional change is worth reflecting on. In our lives, we are also like this,
Mindfulness meditation just helps me to 'see' this process more clearly, because I identified myself with it, and I treated it as 'my' emotions, 'my' anger and 'my' thoughts, and because of this, I started to deny myself negatively, and then turned from the inside out and denied myself,
To break this emotional cycle, you need to recognize that you are not your headache, you are not your thoughts and emotions,
It may just be a headache, thoughts and emotions, or it may just be a sensation in your mind, you don't need to immediately give it a name,
You may just need to take seriously your body, listen to its information, and respect it.
Three, perceive the emotional suffering in your inner and physical emotions.
Have you noticed that there are many emotional sufferings deep in your inner and physical depths,
Emotional suffering is the suffering in your inner heart, and it's more widespread than physical pain, and it can make you become decadent,
This kind of suffering can be self-deprecating suffering, such as blaming yourself for what you have done or not done,
For example, if you hurt others, you may experience the suffering of guilt, mixed with self-reproach, regret, anxiety, and worry.
Just as body pain, you can observe emotional suffering in meditation, and use its energy to grow and heal,
The key is to be willing to leave space for suffering, welcome it, observe it, and don't try to change it. Intentionally treat it kindly, just like a recurring pain or a thought in your mind, coexist with it.
The hardships and unknowns of life will also make you experience pain, when you experience pain, you need to perceive it and accept it,
This is actually very difficult.
For example, when you are suddenly diagnosed with a serious illness and need to be admitted to a critical care unit,
Or because of the sudden death of a loved one, when your emotions collapse.
Or being hit by a sudden accident, when these moments happen and after, you need to be fully aware and accept them.
No matter what happens, when physical and emotional pain arises, shift your perspective to accept the present moment, this is a very good psychological healing.
Sometimes, meditation can help us directly enter the vortex of confusion, injury and emotions, which may be caused by misunderstanding, emotional exaggeration and desire for things,
When painful things happen, meditation can help you see the substance of the pain more clearly, listen to a calmer, clearer voice.
