Are You a Person Who Respects Reality? Disrespecting Reality Will Only Lead to Being Abandoned by It
Author: Ivan
Disrespecting reality will not be respected by reality.
The most interesting moments of reading are when concepts are integrated and understood, when suddenly you realize that many things you've learned come together in a single moment.
In the past two years, I've read hundreds of books, and several that I particularly admire, whose books I've read more than 10 times.
Recently, I've realized they've all communicated a very important principle from their different perspectives and forms: to understand and accept reality, and then to think and act based on it.
Here, 'reality' doesn't mean worldly affairs or social maneuvering, but rather closer to its original meaning,Objective existence, facts, can be understood as objective laws, natural laws, which are unchangeable by human will.Approximately equalLaws, truths, realityThese words.
I describe this principle as 'making friends with reality.'
This principle is the most fundamental and basic thing for us to achieve good results.First, you need to understand reality, know its characteristics, then you need to respect and accept reality, don't evade it, and finally, you need to think and act based on its characteristics.
Then it will give you the results you want.If you devote your energy to it, it will be good to you, helping you achieve results in reality.
If you don't care about it, it won't care about you either.
A self-evident fact: a person will die if they don't drink water.
Everyone understands, respects, and follows this fact.
If someone thinks they don't need to drink water just by willpower, they will be punished.
However, people often evade reality for various internal and external reasons, even if it's obvious, and they will also be punished by reality.
Many people are very anxious now, mainly because of their dissatisfaction with the current situation, they have a relatively high expectation, but the reality is not good, so they have many unrealistic fantasies.
Have you ever fantasized about becoming very skilled in a short time, like suddenly going viral, suddenly becoming a big V, or suddenly achieving a remarkable accomplishment?
If you have, pay attention to it, because the more dissatisfied and anxious people are, the more serious their fantasies will be, because these fantasies can alleviate anxiety, but they won't bring you any changes in reality.
This creates a vicious cycle, because of high expectations, poor reality, this gap makes people anxious and irritable, and these anxious thoughts increase unrealistic ideas, and evading reality will make the situation even worse, reinforcing this cycle.
To change this situation, the most important thing is to start with understanding and accepting reality, and acting based on reality, to achieve results based on reality.
For example, if you want to learn a skill, you need to learn the method, but also continuous deliberate practice, instead of just imagining yourself having mastered the skill in your mind. For example, if you want to get a promotion and a raise, you must think about what conditions are necessary in the company's system to get a promotion and a raise, instead of just complaining about the boss not giving you a raise in your mind. Therefore,
Making friends with reality
Is the most important principle in life, because it is the most basic principle for us to achieve the expected results in reality.
First, we need to learn, discover, and summarize the important 'reality laws' in life, which are unchangeable and will repeat themselves, then based on these 'reality laws', we should think about how to do it.
Ray Dalio of Bridgewater Fund is very interesting: 'I imagine life as a puzzle, and each problem I face is a puzzle to be solved. I get a gem by solving the puzzle – a principle that helps me avoid similar problems in the future. Collecting these gems can improve my decision-making, allowing me to enter a higher level of the game, where the game becomes more difficult and the stakes become greater.'
In the next few articles, we will share some 'gems,' which are some important but often overlooked reality laws.
