Characteristics of People Who Experience a Miserable Old Age
As the saying goes, 'A hard life in youth leads to a miserable old age.' People who live truly happy lives in their youth work hard and make money, and when they get old, they can enjoy the fruits of their labor, with a warm family and a comfortable life. They are cared for when they are sick and have company when they are lonely.’
Idealism is beautiful, but reality is cruel. Many people end their lives sadly in old age, lonely and isolated, like a tree in winter, seemingly trembling with cold.
People who have a miserable old age typically have the following characteristics:
1. They lose their loved ones and become increasingly lonely as they get older.
As the saying goes, 'A young couple stays together through old age.' A person feels capable in their youth, and even if they divorce, they can easily find a new lover and build a happier family. Marriage is not a joke; once lost, it's difficult to regain. Many people feel ‘It’s better to have the original wife’ after many years of divorce.
My cousin is almost seventy years old. He opened a shop in the county seat when he was young and started a family. Later, he divorced his wife because she didn’t have a good education and wasn’t beautiful. After divorcing, my cousin looked for several girlfriends, but none of them married him. Many women just liked his money and pretended to be in love with him to take his money. My cousin's shop eventually closed down due to lack of funds.
My cousin returned to his rural hometown with the few thousand yuan he got from selling the shop and planned to live a comfortable life. But he liked his ex-wife, Flower Flower, again in the village. Flower Flower had a high school student son, and their family expenses were large. My cousin thought Flower Flower would stay with him for life, so he gave her all the money. Later, Flower Flower’s son went to Shenzhen to work and brought Flower Flower with him, leaving my cousin alone and miserable. My cousin’s ending is a ‘basket of water, one fruitless trip’, and he ends up with a miserable old age.
When you get old, you often have various illnesses. If you have no money, you won’t even get timely medical treatment, and you’ll suffer greatly. Moreover, when you get old, it’s difficult to borrow money, and people are afraid you won’t repay it.
2. They spend recklessly in their youth, and have no savings when they get old.
People who have a happy old age are usually filial to their parents and have good character, which they use to influence their children. If you don’t treat your parents well, don’t expect your children to treat you well.
My eldest uncle is very temperamental. He shouts and kicks at his wife when he’s not satisfied, leading to constant conflict in the family. My eldest uncle is almost seventy years old and lives alone. His children visit him occasionally, but he rarely interacts with them. He always thinks his children don’t treat him well and don’t respect him. He says, ‘You old stuff, don’t ask me for food later.’
Some old people’s bad temper influences their children, leading to constant conflicts. If you don’t cherish the happiness you have, don’t expect your children to treat you well. Old people who are still stubborn will have a miserable old age. There’s a saying in our hometown, ‘The water dripping from the eaves falls drop by drop.’ This means that a person’s words and deeds will affect those around them. A person can’t escape his family no matter how far he goes.
A miserable old age often results from family discord and lack of money, along with a broken marriage. To enjoy a happy old age, you need to prepare in advance, earn more money, and love your family.
