Major Discovery! Following the Qianyi Giant Field, Bohai Sea Gains Another Large Oilfield

The Leizhou 6-1 discovery is located in the northern Bohai Leizhou Bay, belonging to China’s largest oilfield Bohai Oilfield. Since the late 1970s, the area has undergone more than 40 rounds of exploration, with no results. The size of the discovered reserves was small and unevenly distributed, making it impossible to establish an effective development system.

In 2019, China Oil implemented and carried out the spirit of Xi Jinping’s important instructions, greatly improved the intensity of domestic oil and gas exploration and development, and launched the ‘Seven-Year Action Plan’ for increasing reserves and increasing production. Using unconventional ideas and measures, it continued to search for large and medium-sized oil and gas fields in various seas. In the exploration field, it continuously innovated ideas and boldly explored, and achieved more than 10 new discoveries in domestic seas.

The discovery of Leizhou 6-1 is another achievement of China Oil in the exploration field, which is the result of China Oil’s liberation of thought and changing its thinking. Over 40 years, Bohai Oilfield’s researchers have overcome difficulties and continuously innovated in exploration theory and understanding, finally clarifying the rules of oil and gas accumulation and exploration directions, which made the Leizhou 6-1 oilfield successful in discovery and evaluation, and became the first large oilfield in the Leizhou Bay north region.

It has been confirmed that the Leizhou 6-1 oilfield has the characteristics of large reserve size, good oil quality and high test capacity. The exploration well Leizhou 6-1-3 drilled a layer of oil about 20 meters thick, and the well was drilled to a depth of 1596 meters. From the test perspective, the annual crude oil output of this well alone can reach more than 400,000 barrels, and after refining, it can support about 10,000 small cars to run normally for 5 years. After the oilfield is put into production, multiple production wells will bring more substantial social and economic benefits.

The successful exploration of Leizhou 6-1 marks a major breakthrough in China Oil’s oil and gas exploration in the Leizhou Bay north region, breaking the 40-year-no-commercial-oil-gas-discovery situation in the area, showcasing huge exploration prospects, and injecting strong momentum into the continuous development of the Bohai south region’s development system, and laying a solid foundation for Bohai Oilfield’s continuous green and stable production of 10 years and increasing production of 400 million tons.

It was learned that based on the discovery of Leizhou 6-1, China Oil will continue to promote the increase of oil and gas reserves and production, promote the smooth commissioning of the Bohai Middle 19-6 test area and China’s first self-operated deepwater oilfield Flow 16-2 and 8 other new projects, strive to achieve continuous growth in domestic crude oil and natural gas production, and provide safe and stable energy security for the comprehensive completion of the small-town-prosperity-goal and the implementation of the first century-long (centennial – centennial).

China Oil Party Committee Chairman and Chairman Wang Dongjie said that the acquisition of the large Leizhou 6-1 discovery is an important achievement of China Oil’s in-depth implementation of Xi Jinping’s instructions and the great improvement of China Oil’s oil and gas exploration and development efforts. China Oil will firmly promote the ‘Seven-Year Action Plan’ for increasing reserves and increasing production, play the role of exploration leader, focusing on finding large and medium-sized oil and gas fields, and strive to achieve more breakthroughs in more complex oil and gas layers and deeper seas, and continue China Oil’s contribution to national energy security.
