Featured Selection: Open to Blessing, Maintain and Nourish Good Fortune

Traditional Chinese culture greatly values 'goodness.' Phrases like 'be like water in all things good' and 'be like water in all things good' demonstrate this emphasis.

As the saying goes, 'Misfortune has no door, only people invite it.' And 'If your heart is oriented towards goodness, misfortune will recede; if your heart is oriented towards evil, misfortune will not arrive, but goodness will have vanished.'

People inherently possess a tendency towards goodness. The word '' (xiàng), meaning 'to' or 'towards,' is crucial. It represents a force, a motivation, and a deliberate choice.

Choosing a life of goodness, consistently conveying kindness to others, mirroring others' feelings, and offering exchanges of goodwill will, over time, accumulate blessings. We'll share our happiness, and in turn, share others' happiness.

Although our goodwill may not always receive a reciprocal response, this isn't a justification for retaliating. 'Don't harbor ill intentions, be vigilant against ill intentions.' This should be our approach.

Cultivating Blessings through Kindness

An ancient proverb states, 'A calm mind attracts blessings and fosters harmony.'

A person consumed by arrogance finds it difficult to gain the acceptance and affirmation of others, often becoming isolated and miserable. Confucius warned his brothers, 'Be humble,' pointing out that those who are overly confident 'will inevitably fall into ruin.' Furthermore, they 'refuse to reflect on themselves,' constantly finding fault in others.

'Humility leads to success in all things, while conceit leads to emptiness nine times out of ten.' Don't cultivate arrogance like a wheat stalk or a bamboo reaching for the sky; remain humble. Treat others with humility, work diligently, and blessings will naturally abound.

Preserving and Nourishing Blessings

(Cài Gēn Tǎn - Vegetable Root Treatise) states, 'Be steadfast and prudent; this is the way to avoid misfortune. Those who seek fleeting advantage are doomed to disastrous consequences; those who maintain a tranquil and unassuming demeanor enjoy lasting peace and prosperity.'

Those who pursue momentary gain through opportunism may achieve temporary success but will ultimately face ruin. Those who maintain their integrity and a quiet demeanor enjoy enduring peace and tranquility.

'Look up to the heavens without arrogance, look down on people without being humble.' It is rare to find a person who can be truly at peace with themselves, a person who doesn't commit wrongdoing; knocking on a door in the dead of night won't cause alarm.

An ancient proverb says, 'Restlessness leads to failure, while peace attracts blessings.'

A person with a quick and irritable temperament will struggle to succeed in anything; a calm and tranquil disposition attracts blessings naturally.

A full container will spill if tipped unevenly; similarly, a person needs a peaceful mind to accumulate blessings.

A peaceful mindset allows us to perceive beautiful scenery within, creating a state of transcendence: during times of success, we don't become overly joyful; during difficult times, we don't become discouraged; during gatherings of friends, we maintain composure; during farewells, we don't feel lonely.

Self-Discipline and Cherishing Blessings

An ancient proverb states, 'Blessings cannot be shared endlessly, and influence cannot be utilized endlessly.'

Things reach their peak and then decline; the boundaries between misfortune and good fortune are intertwined. At the height of success, it's often the beginning of decline.

Therefore, ancient wisdom dictates, 'Enjoy wine in small sips' – cherish your blessings.
