Prosperity fades like scented dust, water is ruthless, flowers self-claim spring. The east wind is lonely, birds mourn at dusk, falling flowers are like falling building people.
Jin Gu Yuan's meaning is: West Jin period's Stone Chong's luxurious villa, located in the northeast of present-day Luoyang, Henan. Fragrant dust's meaning is: According to the record in 'Gatherings', Stone Chong built a stage for the dancers of his home, covering it with fragrant wood and ivory, so that the dancers could dance on it. No trace, rewarded with pearls, marked with traces, reduced its diet, let it be nimble. Falling people's meaning is: referring to the green pearl. According to the 'Jin History' record, the green pearl was a favorite concubine of Stone Chong, Sun Xiu wanted to possess her, Stone Chong was furious and didn't give her, Sun Xiu framed Stone Chong, so Stone Chong was captured, the green pearl died and fell under the tower.

Author's state of mind: In 33 years old, Du Mu had been a cadre in the Yanzhou Hue Dynasty's temporary government. This poem records the poet's fleeting pleasures, indulging in lustful pleasures, and scattering scandalous things in the Qinglou women's houses, and the poet's regret and self-reproach for this life.
