Actually, table tennis doesn’t have standard actions. In mathematics, the precise standard in primary school is to measure distance to the centimeter (CM) and angle to the degree (°). There are no standards in table tennis, so we emphasize standard actions more.

In practice, I generally recommend a distance according to height and individual circumstances. This is why table tennis encourages face-to-face consultation.

If not specified, I generally recommend a little wider than the shoulders.

There are two reasons: 1. Nowadays, people's height is generally higher. 2. The ball is bigger, and we need more impact. Beginners are usually stable and play more confidently and naturally.

(2) Right foot back, legs naturally bent

We actually hope to give specific things, not ‘about’, ‘slightly’, or ‘a little’.

If the right foot is back how much? Some coaches teach ‘half a palm’, some teach ‘5cm’, some teach ‘one palm’, some teach ‘a little bit’. ‘A little bit’ is definitely different for everyone because of different understandings. The other ones are also different for everyone. Even 5cm is different for everyone because of different distance senses. Actually, your true stance is the same as holding a racket. There’s no mistake (right foot in front or parallel, right foot too far back) is okay. According to technical structure, playing style, and inclination, it’s different.

Legs are naturally bent, bent how much? What is natural?

Because ‘natural’ and ‘down’ are different.

Downing makes the thigh muscles stiff, the hips are moved back, the center is moved back, and it’s easy to sit down immediately. Sitting down is your pace, it’s your spirituality. Without spirituality, everything is meaningless.

Except for this purpose, everything else is just for going on stage, accumulating and summarizing for many years, we have drawn a set of actions that are easy to go on stage, easy to generate power, coordinated, faster speed, smoother connection. This action is now a standard action recognized by many ball players.

Just now I have told you the core of the action, the essence of the action! We must be clear about this, and then focus on the outside, standardized to achieve it. If you don't have the core thing, your framework will never be good. Focusing on the essence can make you improve faster.

For example, if your action is very awkward, you can’t swing the racket smoothly, and you can’t coordinate it. Then you can adjust it to coordinate.

Every wrong action can trigger several related errors, so when you’re learning, try to do your best, don’t be afraid to be slow, because it’s better to be slow than fast.
