Hangzhou: Mandarin Ducks 'Choosing Homes' in White Poplars
On April 3rd, in North Mountain Street, Hangzhou, a pair of (yuán yáng - mandarin ducks) were peeking around at the (wútóng shù - white poplar trees), searching for tree holes. Currently, mandarin ducks are about to enter the breeding season, starting to look for a suitable tree hole at the West Lake's edge to prepare for nesting and raising their young. Due to the significant pruning and maintenance conducted on the white poplar trees in North Mountain Street this year, garden workers have filled in some tree holes, leading to a shortage of 'housing' for West Lake mandarin ducks.
