In China, everyone 'cherishes' me, calling me 'the most beautiful migratory bird' and 'summer sprite'. Every year, I and Xiamen have a 'date' with each other. Now, I and my companions are flying to Xiamen on 'route', in a short time, you will be able to see our figures.
Today I meet you not to boast my looks, but to share my 'friends circle' with you. First, I want to represent my companions and thank you for establishing our special festival — 'Bird Week' (March 25th to 31st every year is 'Bird Week' in Fujian Province, this is the 38th 'Bird Week', compiled and statistical by the City Bird Watching Association, as of the end of February 2019, the total number of wild bird records in Xiamen was 22 families and 74 species, of which 1 species is listed as Level 1 Protection Animal (White-throated Minivet), and 47 species are listed as Level 2 Protection Animal), these friends are very active in my 'friends circle' and often appear in human 'friends circle'. For example, swallows and summer migrants like the Buffy Fishcrow are starting to appear, as well as Black-faced Spoonbill and White-bellied Blue Robin appearing on the island.
Why do I and my companions like to 'hang out' in Xiamen? Because the people of Xiamen are very good to us. To protect us, Xiamen has established two nature reserves. One is the Xiamen Rare Marine Species National Nature Reserve, which merged the original Xiamen White Dolphin Provincial Nature Reserve, Xiamen Great Egret Provincial Nature Reserve, and Xiamen Wenzhou Fish Provincial Nature Reserve, with a total area of 7588 hectares, protecting 12 rare species. Do you know that there are more than 60 species of herons worldwide, and 20 species in China (excluding vagrant species), of which 17 are in Xiamen, mainly white egrets, night herons, pool herons and spoonbill flocks reproduce. Bird babies hatch and parents take turns foraging and nurturing them, about one month after hatching, the babies will leave the nest to forage. Under the care of the reserve, the survival rate of the bird babies can reach 85%!
Next, I will formally introduce the Xiamen Puyuan Bay Chestnut-throated Minivet Nature Reserve. Every April to July, I will fly to Xiamen to lay eggs, hatch and raise young, and return to Southeast Asia in August to overwinter. In 2017, the 'little tiger team' that flew to Xiamen with me exceeded 80 individuals, and last year reached about 120 individuals, which is a strong lineup. Besides 'home', some active 'little tigers' also like to 'go shopping' such as seeing them at Xian Yue Shan, Zhonglun Park, and Puyuan Bay Wetland Park.
