Grim Fate of an Owl: Panzhui Forest Police Jointly Rescue
A great horned owl was discovered seriously injured in a schoolyard, and the teacher protected it and called the police, the forest public security bureau dispatched officers, and the animal park provided timely treatment. On March 20th, an owl with both eyes lost was properly treated.
According to reports, on March 19th, Mr. Wang from the Lixia Vocational and Technical School in Panzhui City discovered an owl sitting on a manhole cover in the schoolyard. He thought the owl would fly away on its own, as owls are nocturnal animals. However, the next morning, the owl hadn't left, and Mr. Wang found it strange, so he approached to see that the owl’s eyes were injured and it couldn’t fly away, so he immediately called the police and took protective measures.
After receiving the rescue report, the Panzhui Forest Public Security Bureau immediately drove to the school to deal with the situation. Upon arrival, they saw the owl drooping its head and looking listless on the ground. The officers acted urgently and, without taking protective measures, put a cardboard box over the owl to put it in. Unexpectedly, the owl instinctively resisted, scratching the fingers of one officer, and another officer was pecked by the owl’s beak. The officers didn’t care about the pain or treating the wounds and quickly put the owl into the cardboard box and onto the police car.
After a simple understanding of the owl’s situation, Officer Ma quickly transported it to the animal park. It took about 20 minutes to arrive at the Panzhui City Animal Park, where the zookeepers were already waiting. After taking the owl from the officer, they immediately checked and treated the wounds. At this time, everyone carefully observed and found that the owl actually had neither of its eyes, was double blind, and was very slow in its reaction. Everyone was very worried about its life.
After a comprehensive assessment, experienced zookeeper Wang Jian believed that the owl had not eaten anything for at least a day after being injured, so he brought water, beef, and chicken, and fed it little by little. The little guy drank a few mouthfuls of water and ate some, and gradually recovered. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
