Seeing parrot videos online, a woman from Taizhou, Zhou Mou, commissioned someone to spend over 30,000 yuan to buy 3 parrots, two of which are national level protected animals. Modern Express reporter learned that recently, facing the neighborhood police, Zhou Mou frankly admitted that she knew buying and selling national protected animals was illegal, but because she really liked it, she couldn't help herself.

Recently, the Haibin branch of the Taizhou Public Security Bureau received a report from citizens that a resident in the area, Zhou Mou, raised a parrot with bright red feathers, which was very similar to the African Grey Parrot, a national level key protected animal.

After receiving the report, the police station officers immediately launched an investigation and quickly apprehended the suspect Zhou Mou. Zhou Mou confessed to the facts of the crime and voluntarily explained that she also raised a green-winged macaw and a sunflower parrot elsewhere. The police quickly launched action to rescue the other two parrots. After identification by the State Forestry Administration Forest Public Security Judicial Identification Center, three parrots, including the African Grey Parrot and the Macaw, are national level key protected animals, and the sunflower parrot is a national level two key protected animal.

According to Zhou Mou's account, several years ago she saw parrot videos online and thought these birds were very spiritual, so she wanted to raise one. Although she knew that parrots belonged to national protected animals and that the state prohibited private breeding, she still chose to take risks and bought three parrots starting in 2014, totaling 320,000 yuan.

It is reported that one of the macaws was bought by Zhou Mou through an intermediary from Uruguay and was sick when it arrived, Zhou Mou repeatedly traveled to Nanjing and Shanghai to treat it, which cost her several hundred thousand yuan to heal.

According to the provisions of the 'Wild Animal Protection Law', raising national key protected animals such as parrots requires professional venues, equipment, and technology, and a written application must be submitted to the wild animal protection station. After passing the acceptance of the forestry department, a breeding and reproduction license will be issued. Subsequently, the police officers, based on Zhou Mou's account, locked in the suspected criminal suspect upstream and rushed to Shantou overnight for surveillance. They caught the suspected suspect involved in purchasing and selling valuable endangered wild animals the following morning. At the same time, they launched surveillance on the other two criminal suspects. Currently, Zhou Mou is under investigation by the police for the crime of illegally acquiring endangered wild animals.
