Many breeders, including Biebiao, have previously learned that feeding is based on the temperature in spring. Because if the temperature difference is too large, it is not conducive to the health of the turtles and is likely to cause diseases that lead to the death of the turtles, resulting in direct losses.
Generally, it is necessary to wait until a continuous period of time at night when the temperature gradually stabilizes to a certain extent before considering feeding the turtles an appropriate amount. Although this is a good direction and even the judgment standard of many experienced breeders, I want to say that this is actually not very accurate feeding method.
Different turtle species have different requirements. Some turtles will have a feeding need if the temperature is below 25 degrees, and if they are not fed in time, the turtles may become seriously ill and die due to lack of energy and nutrition. Some turtles have no feeding needs when the temperature is above 25 degrees. If they are fed at this time, the turtles will not eat, and the food will be wasted. Considering that we are controlling costs, we will increase the cost of raising turtles.
How do we determine when to feed so that our costs will not increase, our turtles will not get sick, and they will not die?
It's actually very simple. We put aside the temperature factor and look at the turtles themselves. If the turtles are moving around, it means they have a feeding need, and at this time, we can choose to feed them a small amount of food. If the turtles do not have this activity, but the temperature is above 25 degrees, we do not need to feed them, because the turtles do not currently have a feeding need.
Of course, if your previous turtle breeding has always relied on the temperature fluctuation to feed, and there has never been any unexpected situation, you don't need to try this new method. But if feeding has previously caused death or other diseases, you can try this new method!
