Huh? Giant Panda Appears Twice a Day, Staffers 'Roared' by its Feeding Frenzy
On April 9th, reporters from Red Star News learned from the Sichuan Tangjiahe National Nature Reserve that on April 7th, staff at the Tangjiahe Nature Reserve’s Sky Ridge Panda Monitoring Area discovered panda activity traces during monitoring operations. After 2 hours of searching, a panda was found in a bamboo grove, happily munching on bamboo.
Staff members slowly approached, recording the panda’s precious footage. In the video, the adorable panda stared at the staff members and repeatedly roared, proclaiming its territorial sovereignty. The area is at an altitude of about 2300 meters, with a needle-leaved mixed forest and a large quantity of Sichuan fir bamboo.
Staff members said they had never seen such a large wild panda in the wild, with a weight of at least 180-200 jin. In the subsequent monitoring survey, a total of 3 different individuals of pandas were found through fecal samples.

Just one day later, on April 8th, staff at the Tangjiahe Bai Gu Ping Protection Station discovered two pandas in the Paper Factory Gorge (located at an altitude of 2240 meters) in the Sky Ridge area. After an initial observation, they judged that they were a mother and her cub. The cubs were resting on trees in the Sichuan fir bamboo forest, while the mother was feeding on the ground while her child played.
Unfortunately, due to the dense growth of Sichuan fir bamboo, it was impossible to capture a shot of the two pandas together. Subsequently, staff collected samples of fresh panda fecal matter for further DNA detection of pandas.
Both panda locations are in Tangjiahe Nature Reserve’s core area, which is a key protection area. The natural ecosystem is well preserved and is a concentrated distribution area for rare and endangered animals and plants. The biological resources are very rich. The area has national key protected plants such as Chinese yew, Sichuan fir, Ginkgo, cardamom tree, Sichuan elm, and Sichuan holly; national key protected animals include pandas, Sichuan golden monkeys, twist-horned antelope, green-tailed rhododendron, and spotted hazelnut chicken.
