Recently, reporters saw in the core area of the reserve that there were more than 30 artificial nests visible to the eye on both sides of the road, and a pair or two of Oriental White Storks would fly to claim the nests after a patient wait; in the reeds and on the surface of the un-melted ice, a group of white storks, black storks and egrets gathered, and occasionally one could see the silhouettes of Cranes and Swans.

In autumn 2017, nearly 100 Oriental White Storks were discovered in the reserve, and 20 artificial nests were constructed during the Spring Festival in 2018 to attract Oriental White Storks. That year, three pairs claimed the nests and bred 10 chicks, all of which survived. The migratory route turned into a breeding habitat. This year, with the support of the Loutai County People's Government, an additional 20 artificial nests were added.
It is reported that over the past three years, the reserve has worked tirelessly to restore terrain and landforms, maintain natural wetland shoreline, connect river and lake systems, restore vegetation, restore wildlife habitats and combat harmful species, expanded the return of farmland to wetlands, and rectified illegal poaching and fishing behavior, maximizing the restoration of wetland ecological functions.
