On March 19th, at approximately 7:15 AM, the Miaotan Police Station received a report from a citizen stating that a black bird had been found on the banks of the Yangtze River outside the Jiangkou Pigeon Cage Harbor Lock. The citizen was unsure if it was a protected animal and requested assistance from police to handle the situation.
Police arrived at the scene and discovered that the black bird was a black swan. Although it did not appear to have any obvious injuries, it was unable to fly due to its limited mobility.
Subsequently, police immediately contacted the forestry department, which transported the black swan back to the police station. At the police station, the black swan received attentive care, with police specifically providing it with small fish to eat. The black swan devoured the fish 'haphazardly,' eating more than ten small fish in a short time, and its spirits improved significantly compared to when it was first discovered.
Around 9:30 AM, forestry department personnel arrived and transported the black swan to the Land-Based Wild Animal Reception and Treatment Center in Chongming District. Professional personnel further cared for it there.
Interestingly, just a few days ago, the Chongming District Land-Based Wild Animal Reception and Treatment Center had recently received a black swan that had been found and delivered by a citizen. Now it finally had a companion. According to the center's staff, the black swan delivered today was larger, and the two black swans got along very well after half a day together.
