According to the British 'Daily Mail' report on March 10, the only female white giraffe and her calf were killed by poachers in the northern city of Garissa. This leaves only one white giraffe remaining in the world.

Local animal protection organizations say Kenya has 3 giraffes left in the world, all white, two of which were killed recently by poachers. The remains of the two white giraffes were found when they were already skeletons. This shows that the two white giraffes have at least died for four months. The last remaining white giraffe is the male calf born to the female giraffe who was killed.
Giraffes have white skin because of a rare ‘white gene’ that causes their skin cells to not produce pigmentation, not due to albinism.

This white giraffe was first discovered in 2017, which sparked great interest. She subsequently gave birth to two calves. The latest was in August last year. The three white giraffes have been living in the protected area and have attracted visitors from all over the world to visit, promoting the local tourism industry.
Forest ranger Ahmed Noller said that their deaths are a major loss for researchers in Kenya and the local tourism industry.
The identity of the poachers is currently unknown, and their motives are still unclear. As the main protection agency in East Africa, the Kenya Wildlife Service is investigating the matter.
