Observation! Critically Endangered Blue-Headed Duck Spotted in Fushun Hun River
On March 30th, bird photography enthusiasts in Fushun City captured a rare wild bird, the Blue-headed Duck, in the Hun River Nature Reserve.
The Blue-headed Duck is a globally critically endangered species with a population of less than 1,000. It has been listed in the 'Red List of Threatened Species' of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (Critically Endangered); on August 1, 2000, the State Forest Administration of China listed this species in the 'List of Wild Animals in China Needing Special Protection.'

According to reports, the Blue-headed Duck is mainly distributed in countries such as Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, and Vietnam. It was once a common migratory bird, but due to habitat destruction and human hunting, its population has declined sharply, and it faces the danger of extinction in the wild, so it is classified as 'Critically Endangered'.
In mid-March, Blue-headed Ducks migrate from their southern wintering grounds to northern breeding grounds; and in mid-October they begin to migrate back to the south. Blue-headed Ducks are very picky about their habitats, requiring water quality of at least the third level to attract them; the rediscovery of this critically rare bird in Fushun indicates that the Hun River ecological system in Fushun has been comprehensively restored.
