Spider Crabs
Crab is a suborder (Crustacea) of the class of hard shell (Malacostraca), order Decapoda, spider crab family (Majidae or Maiidae) of invertebrates.
Spider crab is a type of crab, growing in Alaska, USA. Because of its eight legs are very long, its appearance resembles a spider, and it has more chelipods than ordinary crabs, so it is called spider crab.
The '' manned submersible, which carried out its first experimental application voyage in the South China Sea, dived to the seabed and collected spider crabs and valuable seabed samples such as cold corals.
Spider crabs have a hard shell, the crab species with the longest first chelipod, because it resembles a spider, so it gets its name. The body is relatively thick and round, the legs are thin and long, usually moving slowly. Most are scavengers, especially fond of eating animal carcasses.
Spider crabs have thorny carapace, sharp helpods, long walking legs. This thorny spider crab is the largest crab in Europe, there are nearly 100 different species in Australia's coastal areas, although it has long chelipods and eight legs are thin and long, its appearance looks like a spider, but it is dull and easy to capture. The crab shell has many protruding spherical balls, which are sea anemones, which are carnivorous animals that feed by absorbing water animals. It relies on symbiotic living on the crab shell and the spider crab mutually benefit each other.
Because spider crabs like to wander around in the sea, the sea anemones that cannot move along with the spider crab's movement, expanding the foraging area. For spider crabs, one is to disguise itself with sea anemones. Two is that sea anemones can secrete venom, protect spider crabs from attacks by predators, ensuring the safety of spider crabs. Spider crabs use sea anemones to protect themselves, their crawling also provides convenience for sea anemones to hunt, which is called symbiosis in biology.
Spider crabs generally live at a depth of 3600 meters underwater, but sometimes they crawl to the shallow beach; especially during the breeding period they crawl to the beach in large groups, at this time fishermen will take the opportunity to catch them.
Spider crabs feed on fish, its pair of pincers are very strong, once the prey is targeted by it, it is difficult to escape. In its lifetime, spider crabs will undergo about 14 times of growth and molting, each time of molting is a challenge for life, after molting its body will be very tired, unable to stand, it needs to lie on it quietly for a few days. Outside the molting period, spider crabs are fierce and good at fighting, belonging to the 'big brother' among crabs. 50,000 spider crabs can participate in a mating event at a depth of 4 meters in Melbourne, Australia's Philips Bay.
Spider crabs generally weigh 1~2 kg per weight, all are naturally wild imported, crab meat is delicious and rich in protein, mainly sold to high-end hotels in Fuzhou. Because it requires a high environment, it is easy to die during transportation and temporary storage, it is generally not sold in ordinary markets, so citizens need to pre-order from seafood wholesalers if they want to buy.
Live spider crabs sell for about RMB 500 per 500g, dead crabs are about RMB 200 per 500g; in Fuzhou's Xiyingli market, the price of live spider crabs is about RMB 280~380 per 500g, and the price of dead crabs is about RMB 100.
