Over 200 Oriental White Storks Occupy Dulu River Nest

Black Dragon River Daily, April 7th reportThe spring breeze greens the Dulu River, the oriental white stork busy grabbing nests. This spring, the Ruili Dulu River Provincial Nature Reserve, with its excellent ecological environment, once again welcomed more than 200 national first-class protected animals, the oriental white stork. Due to the population exceeding expectations, the 40 artificial nests built have been in short supply, and the late-arriving oriental white storks can only 'grab'
The reporter saw in the core area of the protected area, more than 30 artificial nests on both sides of the road had oriental white storks, waiting for a while and one or two oriental white storks would fly over to grab the nest; in the reeds and the ice that has not melted, a group of white egrets, black-crowned night herons and gray herons gathered, and it was occasionally possible to see red-crowned cranes, white cranes and swans
Ruili Dulu River Wetland Protection Zone Chief Leftuo Tao told reporters that since the oriental white stork population of nearly 100 was discovered in the protected area in the autumn of 2017, 20 artificial nests were built during the Spring Festival in 2018 to attract oriental white storks. That year, three pairs successfully occupied the nests and produced 10 chicks, achieving successful breeding within the year of nest building. The former stopover point has now become a breeding habitat. This year, with the support of the Ruili County Government, 20 new artificial nests were built, but even so, it could not satisfy the increasing number of oriental white storks.
