Breed History
American Eskimo Dogs are primarily descended from European Pomeranian breeds, including White German Pomeranian Hairless Dogs, White Dutch Hairless Poodles, and White Italian Pomeranian Hairless Dogs, but some also classify them as Nordic breeds.
In the 19th century, German immigrant communities in the United States often encountered this small, white Pomeranian-type dog. They came to America with their owners—Mr. Do from Europe and quickly won the favor of local people. Gradually, they were called American Eskimo Dogs.

Overall Evaluation

American Eskimo Dogs are beautiful and intelligent dogs. Although they are somewhat conservative, they are excellent guard dogs, warning their owners with barking when strangers approach. They are not dangerous and will not bite or attack, but they can still protect their owners and quickly learn new skills and enjoy pleasing their owners.
Coat Characteristics
American Eskimo Dogs have a double coat of white fur, with a short, dense undercoat and a long outer coat that has a protective function. The outer layer of the neck and chest is relatively thick, forming a lion-like collar. Male dogs are more common than female dogs. The long hair extends down to the ankle, which is a distinctive feature. The fluffy, fluffy tail stands upright on the back.

Suitable Population
American Eskimo Dogs are lively and love to play, friendly to children and strangers, accustomed to urban life, only need daily walks outside, so they are excellent recommendations for family dogs. However, because this breed has long hair and white fur, it is also easy to get dirty, so it requires the owner to have enough patience.
