Local Qinghai Herdsmen Capture Snow Leopard Activity Footage
Recently, in the birch tree mountain area of Delingha City, Haixi Zuo, Qinghai Province, local herdsmen captured the footage of the snow leopard's activities by taking photos with mobile phones.

According to reports, the place where the snow leopard appeared is about 15 kilometers from Delingha City, and we can see from the video taken by the herdsmen that the snow leopard is slowly walking on the hillside, not startled by the fact that it was photographed by humans. The video shooter, Qishi Feng, also told reporters about the situation at the time of photographing the snow leopard: "I went from the city to my home – the pasture to check my accounts, and found the snow leopard here. (At that time) it was 15 meters away, and I got out of the car to take a video. It was the first time in many years I have seen a snow leopard in birch tree mountain."

Upon receiving the report from the masses, staff members of the Forestry and Grassland Bureau, along with Forest Police officers, immediately went to the location where the snow leopard appeared for verification. Subsequently, the staff found snow leopard footprints at the scene and installed infrared cameras in the area where the snow leopard appeared to monitor its activity trajectory."

Academician Li Xinming of the Northwest Plateau Biological Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences said: "Because birch tree mountain is a very famous scenic spot in Delingha, from this point of view, human activities are still relatively many. The fact that the snow leopard was recorded in this place shows that harmonious coexistence between humans and wild animals can be seen."

Staff members of the Forestry and Grassland Bureau told reporters that in addition to the fact that herdsmen photographed the snow leopard's footprints with their mobile phones, from October 10th to mid-November 2019, staff members of the Haixi Zuo Wild Animal and Plant Protection and Rescue Station in Dulan County used infrared trigger cameras to capture the footprints of three snow leopards near the Dulan County Gou Li He Zhu Long Wild Animal Protection and Rescue Station. In addition to photographing snow leopards, the infrared camera also recorded more than ten national key protected wild animals, including lynx, masdu,, and brown bears."

Academician Li Xinming of the Northwest Plateau Biological Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences said: "Birch tree mountain belongs to a particularly preferred ecosystem type for snow leopards. The ecological publicity and protection efforts in Qinghai Province are increasing, and people's sensitivity to this type of wild animal is also improving, and the recording methods are also improving."
