Recently, a Jilin friend took a set of precious photos in Hunchun Jingxin Wetland, including White Autumn Sand Duck, wild Tufted Duck, and White-headed Duck.
Jingxin Wetland is located in Hunchun City, Yanbian Prefecture, Jilin Province. Rivers and lakes run through the area, with fragmented lakes, and the main area is 5874 hectares. It is one of Jilin Province’s key protected wetlands. Currently, it has become an important stopover and migration channel for migratory birds.

White Autumn Sand Duck
According to data, White Autumn Sand Duck, also known as Spotted Sand Duck, was listed in the ‘Red List of Endangered Species of the World Conservation Union’ in 2012.
White Autumn Sand Duck belongs to the duck family Sand Duck subfamily, with a total length of about 420mm. Because the male White Autumn Sand Duck is black and white, and has a black mask like a panda, photographers often call it ‘panda duck.’
White-headed Duck
White-headed Duck is a large wading bird, with gray clothing, white neck and head, it is a national level protected animal, and is listed in the International Conservation of Birds Red Book and China’s key protected wild animals.
White-headed Duck inhabits riverbanks, lakes, mudflats, swamps, and reed marshes and wet grasslands. It breeds in Inner Mongolia, the Amur River basin, and winters in the Yangtze River Basin.
Tufted Duck
Tufted Duck is named for a red spot on its head, and it has ‘good fortune,’ ‘loyalty,’ and ‘nobility’ meanings in Chinese traditional culture. Currently, Tufted Duck is a national level protected bird.
