I Change My Goldfish's Water Every Day, Especially During Their Growing Period – Don't Doubt It!

Fish keeping has no fixed method, everyone has their own way. Hello! I’m Yu Ge

Common talking points, still about goldfish water changes, today I’m going to share my experiences raising goldfish

Not necessarily suitable for all experienced fish keepers, beginners can refer to this

For raising goldfish, I usually prepare a basking bucket, and I’m used to letting tap water sit for a day before adding it to the fish tank

Many people are curious about goldfish liking old, green water, so why do I constantly change the water for my goldfish?

Actually, goldfish that like old, green water are typically over 1 year old; in raising young goldfish, water quality management is very important. Young goldfish often feed high-protein feed, and their waste output is also considerable, which can easily lead to water aging. With plenty of light, various algae will form. If the water is too old (pH<6.5, normal is 7-7.5), the young goldfish's food intake will gradually decrease and they’re more prone to illness.

Each water change has its own proportions

Let me explain my various water change habits:

Major water changes: generally above 50% of the tank volume, this is done for fish disease treatment or after a significant deterioration in water quality

Interval water changes: once a week or every two weeks, with reduced feeding for goldfish in winter, usually 1/3 of the tank volume

Daily water changes: for young goldfish less than 1 year old, change the water once a day, with a volume of 1% of the tank volume, the purpose is to dilute organic matter in the water. Because it's done in the evening, there’s minimal temperature fluctuation, and I’ve found that after a water change, feeding 1 hour later, the fish’s eagerness to eat is significantly improved.

Don’t imagine that changing water every day is a hassle, because this water change is just a small amount; using a fixed-size cup or container, changing 1 to 2 cups a day is enough. I also often use the fish tank water to water flowers, which is a great liquid fertilizer!

Okay! That’s all for today. If you have different opinions on goldfish water changes, please share them in the comments. If you find my sharing useful, please give it a thumbs up. Follow Yu Ge says pets to learn pet knowledge that teachers haven't taught you.
