Stranded During Migration, Injured Cormorant 'Fall from Grace' Rescued in Deyang

Texas News Network reported: “We found a bird resembling a cormorant on our company’s rooftop. We don’t know what to do now.” On the afternoon of March 21st, Mr. Xue, manager of Jia Ran Decoration Co., Ltd. in Texas, called the news hotline of this newspaper, 2220000, stating that he happened to encounter a bird crashing into the glass on the rooftop while inspecting the building D-tower, with bloodstains on its wings and unable to fly. “Because of the strong wind on the rooftop, we carefully moved it to the office, prepared water and food, but it didn’t eat, we’re very worried, and we hope for professional to help.” According to Mr. Xue’s description, the reporter immediately contacted the Deyang City Natural Resources Bureau, and senior engineer Wang Ruhang and the reporter rushed to the scene.
Cormorants feed on various fish, mainly by diving to hunt, and live in rivers, lakes, ponds, reservoirs, river mouths and marshes.
Engineer Wang Ruhang introduced that for rescued wild animals, if the conditions for release are met, they will prioritize finding a suitable environment for release, but since this cormorant is already injured, it will be sent to the Deyang City Wild Animal Rescue and Care Center for observation and treatment. ‘Wild animals, after all, have their own habits, and it may not cooperate with human feeding, so rescue is a certain difficulty.’ Engineer Wang Ruhang said. ‘During the bird migration season, we often encounter this situation. In the past two years, we have rescued more than 300 various bird species.’ Engineer Wang Ruhang said that with the optimization of the Deyang wetland environment and ecological environment, the number of wild animals in Deyang, especially birds, is increasing. He reminded the public that when they find injured wild animals, they should contact professional personnel for handling. ‘Many wild animals may not be friendly to rescuers in order to protect themselves, and they don’t know if they carry any pathogens, so it is still recommended that citizens contact us when encountering such cases.’ Engineer Wang Ruhang said.
