Grey-Headed Finches Reappear in Shangzhou

Recently, more than twenty strange birds appeared in the Hanhezi town section of the Sha River wetland in Shangzhou District. These birds have long legs and thin, branched toes with three toes; their feathers are grayish-brown, with black tips on their wings, and white feathers on the underside of their wings and abdomen; they have round, bright eyes and a long, yellow beak with a black tip. When flying, they are particularly beautiful. This bird is the Grey-headed Finch.

Grey-headed Finch, belonging to the order of Cranes, is a national 'three-has-it' protected animal, which means national protected beneficial or of important economic or scientific research value terrestrial wild animals. Grey-headed Finches live in open areas near water and feed on earthworms, insects, snails, etc. They mainly reproduce in Northeast China and Jiangsu and Fujian provinces, and winter in Guangdong and Yunnan provinces. They often pass through Shangzhou every year for a short stay.
