Zhangjiakou Huairian County: Meeting Point of Migratory Birds - Guanting Reservoir Wetland Park

Changcheng Net Zhangjiakou (Reporter Su Xiaorui, Correspondent Sun Huimin) March 3, 2020 is World Wildlife Day. A group of wild ducks, swans, and gray cranes were observed in the Guanting Reservoir Wetland Park in Huairian County, Hebei Province.

In recent years, Hebei Province's Huairian County has increased its ecological construction efforts, continuously strengthening the water ecological wetland protection and restoration projects on the upstream of the Guanting Reservoir, effectively improving the ecological environment.

Huairian County Guanting Reservoir Wetland Park's wetland area reaches 13079.87 hectares, accounting for 96.61% of the park's total area. The wetland types include permanent river wetlands, flooded plains wetlands, reservoir wetlands, aquaculture farms, and rice paddies, comprising five types. It is an important composite wetland in Hebei Province. According to the survey, there are 236 species of terrestrial vertebrates in the wetland, with birds being the most abundant, totaling 191 species, with its species diversity index ranking among the top in the northern protection area of Hebei. Among the bird species, 31 belong to national key protected animals, of which 7 are first-class protected animals: black-necked crane, greater bustard, golden eagle, white-bellied sea eagle, white-shouldered eagle, Chinese redhead duck, and gull. There are 24 species of second-class protected animals, including swans, mandarin ducks, and ruddy ducks.
