Spring Returns to the Earth, Migratory Birds Return

With the rise in temperatures, a large number of migratory birds have returned to migrate back. Accompanied by the beautiful scenery of ‘Half River Flows, Half River Freezes’, on the banks of Longkou Town, Dongfeng District, Jilin Province, along the Songliao River, a vibrant landscape is formed.

According to reports, over 800,000 migratory birds pass through Jilin Province annually, including over 90 species such as geese, dabbling ducks, black-necked gulls, cormorants, and mandarin ducks.

During the autumn harvest, rice and corn scattered in the fields provide ample food sources for migratory birds, providing a strong guarantee for the beautiful picture of ‘Thousands of Birds Flying Together’.

Spring Returns to the Earth, Migratory Birds Return

With the warm weather and melting ice, recently a large number of migratory birds have returned to Xingkai Lake National Nature Reserve at the Sino-Russian border. Eastern White Storks, Black-faced Herons, and various birds such as geese and ducks are soaring and playing freely in the lake, bringing vitality to the lake in early spring.

Xingkai Lake is a Sino-Russian border lake, an international important wetland, and the largest migratory stopover point in Northeast Asia. It is also one of the main breeding grounds for national protected birds such as Cranes, Eastern White Storks, White-tailed Eagles, and Golden Eagles. Starting from mid-March, birds such as geese, ducks, and gulls begin to return to inhabit and breed here.

As of now, the number of migratory birds reaching Xingkai Lake Nature Reserve has mainly been dominated by cranes and geese, with a maximum of over 40,000 birds observed in a day. Protection staff introduced that in the late March and early April, here will be the peak migration period, and the total number of birds gathered here is expected to reach tens of thousands.

Spring Returns to the Earth, Migratory Birds Return

Several Wild Ducks have stopped and fed by the banks of the Khaggerda River, Gogdagcha River, Greater Hingganling.

During the spring and autumn migrations, many migratory birds stop and rest here to supplement their energy. In late March, this will be the peak migration time.
Currently, the field monitoring in Greater Hingganling has detected 20+ new bird species, and previously rare national protected animals such as the Black-billed Magpie, Hazel-crested Finch, and Black-throated Tit are now more common, which is a reflection of the Greater Hingganling’s continuous strengthening of ecological protection.
