Recently, monitoring personnel at the Ningxiang Jinzhuhu National Wetland Park conducted routine bird monitoring inWeiziqizitan segment of the Weizi River,and unexpectedly capturedtwo birds with downward-curved beaks.

the first record ofWhite Spoonbill in
(Changsha).
White Spoonbill belongs to the genus of Spoonbill, with light brown on its head and upper body, dense black-brown feather rachis markings, the feather rachis markings widening from the nape to the upper back, forming block-shaped patterns; they often move in small groups, are lively, move slowly and steadily, and constantly look up and around, discover danger, and immediately fly away, accompanied by a 'go-ee' call.
They dwell in water-side swamps, wetland meadows and rice fields, feeding on crustaceans, mollusks, small fish, insects, and plant seeds; they breed on the northern part of the Eurasian continent, from the United Kingdom to the east to Siberia, and overwinter in southern Europe, South Africa, Southern Asia, India, Indonesia and Japan.White Spoonbill numbers are scarce, and have been listed inthe Red List of Endangered Species,
belonging to the category of Near Threatened Species, which requires us to protect them well!According to Jinzhuhu National Wetland Park bird monitoring statistics, the total number of bird monitoring records in 2015 was 15 orders, 40 families and 126 species. After years of uninterrupted shooting monitoring,
it has now reached 15 orders, 45 families and 152 species, an increase of 5 families and 26 species!
This is inseparable from the ecological protection and restoration work done by the Jinzhuhu National Wetland Park in recent years, and the ecological environment is getting better and better!It is reported that since the acceptance trial of Jinzhuhu National Wetland Park has been following the principle of 'Comprehensive protection, scientific restoration, moderate development, and rational utilization', and has insisted on 'Ecological priority, green development'.strengthening the ecological protection and restoration of the Weizi River wetland, vegetation restoration and planting, intensifying water pollution control and foreign species removal, organizing rich and colorful science popularization and propaganda activities,the wetland ecology, wetland resources and wetland landscape are getting better and better,and achieved certain results.
The wetland park was approved as a national wetland park pilot unit by the Ministry of Forest Resources in December 2009. It successfully passed the national wetland park pilot acceptance evaluation organized by the Ministry of Forest Resources in December 2015 and was officially named 'Ningxiang Jinzhuhu National Wetland Park in Hunan Province'.In conclusion, welcome our cute little friends, and we also hope that the protection work in Ningxiang will be better.
