Pigeon News Bulletin: Clever Tricks for Recognizing Pigeon Sub-Health for Beginners
False health, also known as sub-health, refers to pigeons that appear healthy with no apparent problems, but internally they are not healthy. It's invisible to the naked eye. For new pigeon keepers, encountering sub-health for the first time, they will ask what sub-health is.
Some pigeon keepers will ask, 'What are the symptoms of sub-health? How can you tell if a pigeon is sub-healthy?'
As we've said before, sub-health means that there are no visible problems with the pigeon's appearance, with no symptoms. Unlike other diseases, you wouldn't know if it's newcastle disease just by seeing it have diarrhea.
If you want to find out if a pigeon is sub-healthy, you can't tell by looking at it.
How to know if a pigeon is sub-healthy? Training! This is my answer. A healthy pigeon can be trained to fly any distance without problems, it's just a matter of returning early or late. But a sub-healthy pigeon, flying 30 or 50 kilometers won't show any problems, but if you want to train it to 100 kilometers, you will (meaning, if you want to see if a pigeon is sub-healthy, you can train it to fly 100 kilometers, and if it doesn't return, it probably is, but there could be other reasons). Why does a pigeon that was originally expected to perform well not fly 100 kilometers?
You are expecting a good performance because you know the pigeon, you think it might perform well. But when it doesn't fly 100 kilometers, that shows that the pigeon has a problem. However, before it flew, you couldn't see any problems, so why didn't it fly 100 kilometers? That's sub-health! Its appearance is fine, but its essence is not.
What are the symptoms of sub-healthy pigeons?
Sub-health means that you can't see any problems with the pigeon, and there are no visible symptoms, so you just have to observe more. For example, the pigeon eats regularly, but doesn't eat a lot; the pigeon's mental state is not lively or depressed; and the droppings, although not completely normal, won't look like they're sick. These can all be considered symptoms of sub-health.
How to treat sub-healthy pigeons?
You need to treat the symptoms, a sub-healthy pigeon, you can't tell where the problem is, so you have to treat it comprehensively. If it's targeting the above symptoms, you can feed it yeast and beer. And you also need to clean and disinfect the pigeon house comprehensively. The reason my pigeon is sub-healthy may be because my pigeon house has poor ventilation, because I've taken good care of it in other aspects, there's nothing to expose, it's just ventilation.
