Lion Hunted by 100 Buffaloes, Scared into a 'Meme'

According to the Daily Mail on February 3rd, a lion in Kenya’s national park was chased by approximately 100 angry buffaloes, and the lion scrambled up a tree, shivering and making a ferocious appearance, contributing another meme to humans.

This photo was taken by 39-year-old Neelutpaul Barua. Neelutpaul Barua is from Mumbai, India, and was on a trip to Nakuru Lake National Park in Kenya, where he accidentally captured this lion’s ‘awkward’ appearance.

Initially, the lion was chased by a group of angry African Cape buffaloes. Neelutpaul Barua estimates there were around 100 buffaloes. The lone lion, facing so many buffaloes, could only flee frantically. The buffaloes’ anger was palpable, and the lion climbed a golden acacia tree to evade them. ‘But when the lion tried to climb higher up the tree, it might have been because its weight was too much,’ Neelutpaul Barua said.

Unable to climb higher, the lion was confronted again by the angry buffaloes, leaving it in a desperate situation. The lion, clutching tightly onto a tree trunk, attempted to roar, hoping to intimidate the buffaloes and secure its escape.

This unequal confrontation eventually evolved into a patient standoff. After a while, the buffaloes seemed to lose interest, and some began to leave. Finally, the lion jumped down from the tree, and the buffaloes did not pursue it. The lion’s ordeal finally ended, and it successfully escaped.
