Why Can't Bats Be Easily Eradicated?
There are three main categories of bats when classified by diet:
One category is insectivorous bats, which help humans catch insects like flies and mosquitoes. Where there are bats, mosquitoes and flies will not breed excessively, and bats are good at long-distance flight, spanning cities and provinces is not a problem, occasionally even crossing borders (not referring to the cross-border from Yanbian to Korea), so a large-scale bat population can benefit a large area of people and animals~
The second category is frugivorous bats, which mainly eat fruit and nectar. Eating fruit can help plants spread seeds, and eating nectar can help plants pollinate. Therefore, this part of the bats may have a greater significance for the ecosystem…
The third category is blood-sucking bats. Many people may have many misunderstandings about them, but they may be the only vertebrate that feeds on animal blood, and they are distributed in a small area. In the ecological chain of America, they are responsible for hunting and eliminating weak animals from various large animals (actually, lions hunting zebras is also the same principle), and because they only suck blood, the remaining internal organs, muscles, and fat will still be food for other animals. At the same time, they are also food for many medium-sized animals. It can be said that their importance in the ecological chain is greater than that of humans…
In China, there are only insectivorous bats and frugivorous bats (possibly some insectivorous bats can also catch small fish and shrimp, etc.). If we all hunted them, we might directly cause the extinction of several species, and we would not be able to stop bats from other countries flying over, and we would become an endless pit... Furthermore, and most importantly, there is a great possibility of causing mosquitoes to breed excessively, and there is also a significant impact on agricultural and horticultural planting.
