Netherlands Donates ‘Guotai’ Tulips to China Giant Panda Protection Research Center in Qingchengshan Base

In 2017, giant pandas 'Xingya' and 'Wumen' officially departed for their journey to the Netherlands for a 15-year research cooperation. At the farewell ceremony on April 11th, the director of the Netherlands' Oude Wijngaarden Zoo, Rob van der Lange, presented the 'Guotai' tulip seeds to the China Giant Panda Protection Research Center, symbolizing world peace and national prosperity. Although the 'Guotai' tulip is famous, few people have had the privilege of seeing its true appearance, because it is a very rare variant that has undergone over ten years of cultivation, and currently, the global number is extremely limited.
These tulip seeds were planted at the China Giant Panda Protection Research Center's Linze Garden base in Qingchengshan, Dujiangyan, after the ceremony. In 2018, the tulips bloomed in succession, bringing a touch of surprise to the spring at the base.
The development of the China-Netherlands giant panda scientific research cooperation not only benefits both sides in giant panda breeding and reproduction, artificial rearing, public education and other areas to carry out exchanges and cooperation, improving the scientific and technical level of giant pandas on both sides, and promoting the development of the international giant panda protection cause, but also becomes an important part of the China Giant Panda Protection Research Center's 'Belt and Road' panda garden. We also hope that the panda 'Xingya' and 'Wumen' will soon give birth to the fruits of China-Netherlands scientific research cooperation.
