Rednet Hengyang March 27th report.(Correspondent Wen Lan, Ku Dadeyong, reporter Shi Shan) Recently, staff of the Yuegang National Nature Reserve Administration discovered a rare Sunbird with a fork tail while conducting daily animal monitoring and patrol work. This discovery is a new record for Yuegang, adding a new member to the reserve's bird list. The fork tail sunbird is very beautiful, with colorful feathers and melodious songs. The male adult has green color from the crown to the back of the neck and the tail feathers, with metallic luster, changing between blue and purple depending on the angle, brilliant and colorful.
The beak is slender and downward curved, feeding on nectar with a curved and tubular long tongue, it's like a 'little fairy' with wings, connecting flowers and bridging the flowers, transmitting pollen, it's called 'the eastern hummingbird' in the forest and mountainous cherry blossoms and tea flowers.
The photo shows a male fork tail sunbird, about 11 cm long, often hopping on branches. A gray-masked thrush also appeared in the frame, and the two birds sang together, making the valley lively.
Sunbirds have high requirements for the ecological environment, mainly feed on nectar, which is conducive to pollen transmission, playing an important role in maintaining the ecological balance of the Yuegang local forests. In the future, the Yuegang National Nature Reserve Administration will continue to increase monitoring and patrol efforts, further understand the distribution and survival status of the fork tail sunbird, and provide a better survival environment for the fork tail sunbird.
