Hippopotamuses originate from sub-Saharan Africa, inhabiting tropical grasslands around rivers, lakes, and swamps. The picture shows a photo of a young hippo.
Although hippos resemble pigs in appearance, they are actually more closely related to whales and dolphins. Among non-marine animals, the hippo has the second-largest average body size, only after elephants, white rhinos, and Indian rhinos. It is also the largest extant odd-toed ungulate besides whales.
