Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Base's Private Villa Undergoes Comprehensive Upgrade: Forest Landscape Details Abundant

China News Network: Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Base is lush and green, with bamboo forests and flower corridors everywhere. The panda sports field is full of activity, resembling a corner of the forest. If viewed from the air, it is difficult to distinguish the winding paths. The Panda Base adjusts and replaces vegetation throughout the park several times each year. This is the consistent principle they use to create the living environment for giant pandas: reduce human traces and maximize proximity to natural environments. As the responsible person put it, 'These trees and plants are like toys for giant pandas, and must be constantly changed and refreshed to maintain density.' The plants in the activity field need to be dense enough that keepers can hardly find a place to stand. In addition to creating forest spaces, the Panda Base has also accumulated rich success experiences in environmental enrichment, (), and cultural construction. For example, the recent renovation of Panda No. 14's enclosure is evident.
Panda No. 14's enclosure was built in 1988 and is one of the earliest buildings in the Panda Base. Over the years, the Panda Base has made many improvements and refinements to it. This renovation completely changed the original building structure: expanding and opening the indoor activity field, adding new indoor enclosures, opening up a previously inaccessible outdoor activity field for visitors, and designing a new visitor entrance. The walls of the visitor passage are covered with a variety of () , introducing knowledge about giant pandas' diets, droppings, physiological structure, growth processes, and wild distribution, showcasing enrichment materials, and a book written in the voice of a giant panda, titled 'My Growth Diary,' which is warm and friendly, guiding visitors to gain a deeper understanding of giant pandas in all aspects.
Commonly found in the Panda Base, the climbing platforms and wooden structures are made of natural, outstretched branches, providing the best places for giant pandas to climb, rest, eat, and play. The climbing platform in front of Panda No. 14's enclosure was once large and centralized; now, the climbing platforms in the activity field are scattered throughout, resembling a wild, uncontrolled growth, but they are carefully designed. The activity field now also includes the Panda Base's frequently used Mist Forest System, creating a dreamy atmosphere while also increasing air humidity—it's both beautiful and functional.
