The oldest panda house in Chengdu Panda Base completes upgrade——The 14th house, built in 1988, transforms into a panda 'villa''resort'
Chengdu Panda Breeding Research Base is lush and green, with bamboo corridors and flowers everywhere, and the panda sports field is packed with facilities, like a corner of the forest.

If viewed from the air, it's even difficult to distinguish the winding paths. The panda base also makes several adjustments and replacements to the vegetation every year. This is in line with their principle of creating a panda living environment: to minimize human traces and to approach the wild natural environment as much as possible. As a responsible person put it, 'These trees and plants are just toys for the pandas, and they must be constantly changed and refreshed to ensure density'.

In addition to creating forest space, the base has accumulated rich successful experience in environmental enrichment, science popularization and cultural construction. This can be seen from the recent upgrade of the 14th house.

The 14th house was built in 1988 and was one of the earliest buildings in the base. Over the years, the base has repeatedly improved and perfected it. This upgrade completely changed the original structure: the indoor sports field was expanded and connected, a new indoor house was added, and a previously inaccessible outdoor activity area was opened for viewing, and a new viewing entrance was designed. The walls of the viewing passage are paved with a variety of small knowledge, introducing the panda's diet, feces, physiological structure, growth process, wild distribution, and displaying enrichment materials. There is also a book written in the panda's own voice, 'My Growth Diary', which is warm and friendly, leading tourists to understand the pandas more deeply.

Commonly seen in the base are climbing platforms made of wood, which are the best places for pandas to climb, rest, eat and play. The climbing platform in the 14th house was previously large and concentrated, and now the climbing platform in the activity area is scattered and appears to be a carefully designed wild growth style. The activity area also includes the panda base's frequently used mist forest system, which creates a dreamy atmosphere while increasing air humidity, which is both beautiful and practical.
