Bird Questioning - Crimson Siskin
Bird Questioning - Crimson Siskin
The Crimson Siskin is a siskin belonging to the order Passeriformes, family Fringillidae. Its appearance is black and white, with a reddish-orange abdomen in males, and its body length is approximately 15 cm. It primarily inhabits forests and thickets, with a melodious call that is a favorite of people as a caged bird. In winter, it usually forms small groups to forage. Encountering a Crimson Siskin is rare, and I spotted one while exploring a tamarisk forest, drawn in by its call and the beautiful appearance of its plumage. I chased it for a long time without getting a good photo, but eventually I managed to make a record. Just as I was feeling pleased with myself, I unexpectedly encountered it close up on a city street, perched on a white willow tree, eating seeds. No longer needing to sweat and chase it, I could simply take pictures.
While sorting through photos, I unexpectedly saw the shadow of a Crimson Siskin in an old photo I took years ago. I had taken pictures of Crimson Siskins in the area, but I had not noticed them.
