Black Dragon River Tapingou National Nature Reserve Discovers 4 Wild Siberian Tigers
Original Title: 4 Wild Siberian Tigers Discovered in Tapingou National Nature Reserve of Heilongjiang Province
Since March, four wild Siberian tigers have been discovered in the Tapingou National Nature Reserve of Luobei County, Harbin Province. Two of them are already living in the protected area and have started territorial patrol activities. The other two just arrived from Russia in pairs. The protected area has already captured high-definition image data through infrared cameras.
The protected area is an important migration channel between China and Russia for large mammals, and it plays a crucial role in the diffusion of tigers to China's small Xing'anling region. It is a key area for the restoration of the wild Siberian tiger population in the small Xing'anling region. Therefore, the protected area has increased its efforts to protect Siberian tigers and has continuously carried out supplementary feeding work to ensure the number of prey populations. Since 2018, the protected area has taken all the farmland in its core and buffer zones into monetary compensation and promptly reforested with grass, and in 2019, the protected area carried out a two-year monitoring and habitat assessment project with the National Forestry Bureau's Feline Animal Research Center. Currently, the network of infrared cameras has been set up and the survey of the prey density line has been completed.
Luobei County is committed to building the Tapingou Nature Reserve as a green channel for Siberian tigers to come from China and Russia and a home for their birth and growth.
