Come Meet the ‘Gulls’! Longshu Lake in Dashi District Welcomes Red-Crowned Gulls for the First Time

1-Chongqing Guandian News, in recent days, tens of thousands of red-crowned gulls have flown quietly to the Longshu Lake scenic area in the Dashi district after a long journey. This is the first time Longshu Lake has welcomed the arrival of red-crowned gulls.

Large flocks of red-crowned gulls formed circles in the sky, some lined up neatly across the lake, while others gracefully drifted on the lake. We saw them leisurely floating on the water, chasing and playing, and flapping their wings to move the water.

It is reported that red-crowned gulls belong to migratory birds, also known as ‘water pigeons’. They generally live in good water quality rivers, lakes, reservoirs, and bays. The appearance of red-crowned gulls in Longshu Lake indicates that Longshu Lake’s excellent water quality and good ecological environment fully meet the habitat standards of red-crowned gulls.

Longshu Lake was built in the late 1950s as a medium-sized reservoir with a total storage capacity of 16.4 million cubic meters, and it is one of the sources of the Seixi River and Xiao Anxi River. The scenic area is decorated with 108 unique islands in the lake, stretching for about 10,000 meters, forming a unique landscape where mountains and water reflect each other. Because it is located at the foot of Wuxi Mountain, it is known as ‘Chongqing West Lake’.

Currently, Longshu Lake has 20 or more species of waterfowl, including white cranes, wild ducks, and mandarin ducks. The discovery of red-crowned gulls is still the first.
