Therefore, relaxation is essential for everyone. In one's spare time, embracing nature not only helps to relax the brain but also has certain health benefits for our bodies. Today, the editor would like to introduce a free 4A-level scenic area located in Beijing's downtown, and also a good weekend getaway – the Grand Canal Forest Park located on both sides of the North Canal in Beijing's Tongzhou New City,The Grand Canal Forest Park is built on both sides of the famous Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, with a total area of 10,000 mu. It is a national 4A-level tourist scenic area. It is not only a natural landscape park but also a historical site with historical atmosphere. The Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal connects two prosperous cities – Beijing and Hangzhou. A century ago, it was a bustling hub for merchants on the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. Now it has been developed into a park, named after the Grand Canal, to remember the history and prosperity of this place!

The scenic area was only opened in 2011, so it's a very 'young' scenic area. The Grand Canal Forest Park boasts landscapes that are described as ‘one river, two banks, six gardens, and eighteen scenic spots’. ‘One river’ refers to the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, with the North Canal at its center, and tourism development along the bank, which resulted in the construction of 5 characteristic piers, making it easy for visitors to enjoy the scenery. ‘Two banks’ refers to the viewing roads built along the shore, with trees and wildflowers lining the roads, forming a sightseeing road that combines viewing the river and admiring flowers. ‘Six gardens’ refers to the Ming Mirror Boat Scene, Silver Maple Autumn Fruit, Moon Island Warbling Bird, Luhe Peach Willow, High Terrace Flat Forest, and Dense Forest Vitality Gardens. These six gardens have their own characteristics and showcase their respective charms to visitors. ‘Eighteen scenic spots’ are derived from historical allusions, which adds to the historical flavor of the scenic area.
The overall environment of the scenic area is beautiful and the air is fresh, with lush vegetation, making it a 'natural oxygen bar' in Beijing. Visitors can also take boats on the piers to cruise on the lake, and the boat traveling on the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal can make you feel as if you can sense the past scene of the cargo ships from north to south. The scenic area includes forests, lakes, wetlands and other diverse landscapes, allowing visitors to see different scenes in different seasons. In recent years, the scenic area has also opened a 'green island fun park', which is said to be the largest playground in Tongzhou, with a large number of entertainment facilities, divided into three areas – 'Happy Time', 'Magic Castle', and 'Exciting Moments', including pirate ships, roller coasters, and rapid current challenge courses, with 23 entertainment projects.

The Grand Canal Forest Park is located at Songliang Road South Section, Tongzhou District, Beijing.
