The ‘Third Largest City’ in Southwest China, Following Chongqing and Chengdu, Now a ‘New First-Tier City’

When it comes to major cities in Southwest China, many people will probably first think of Chongqing, one of the four direct-controlled municipalities, and Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province. Although Chongqing and Chengdu have been competing for the position of 'First City' in Southwest China, the 'Third Largest City' in the region is almost without dispute – that's Kunming, the capital of Yunnan Province.

Kunming is located in the central part of the Yunnan Plateau and is not only the capital of Yunnan Province but also one of the most important central cities in the entire western region. Kunming's geographical location is extremely advantageous, often hailed as 'connected to Guizhou and Guangxi, going to the coastal areas, north to the central plains, south to Laos and Vietnam, west to Myanmar and India' – which clearly illustrates everything.

Kunming has a long history, profound cultural heritage, and abundant tourism resources, making it one of China's most famous tourist cities. Furthermore, as the 'Four Great Plateaus' of China include 'Yunnan Plateau', Kunming's favorable geographical conditions make it a beautiful and pleasant city with many tourists love to visit.
Kunming's economic development has been very fast in recent years and has attracted much attention. Although Kunming's GDP has now exceeded 6000 billion, it's still a gap compared to Chongqing and Kunming, but Kunming has successfully entered the ranks of 'New First-Tier Cities', which shows its considerable development potential.

Additionally, Kunming has four distinct seasons and pleasant weather, earning it the title of 'Spring City' since ancient times. Kunming has no harsh winters and no scorching summers, which makes it very suitable for retirement. It's said that ordinary households don't even need to install air conditioners – which is no wonder that more and more people from outside the area are buying houses and investing in Kunming, preparing to retire there.

So, have you ever traveled to Kunming, the capital of Yunnan Province? What is your impression of Kunming? Do you know that Kunming is the second largest city in Southwest China, following Chongqing and Chengdu?
