The Magical Gongzun Demu Journey (11)
left the Gongzun Demu
we gazed at the hands-up Buddha palms, named after the dunes
as a peculiar landform along the Yarlung Tsangpo River
here lies a beautiful legend
beneath the Buddha Palms dunes, was a village called Lagang Village, with a hunter named Detso. Once while hunting, he discovered a monster chasing a woman, and rescued her. The woman was a dragon girl, who, grateful for his rescue, gifted Detso with a mirror that could predict the future—but he was to keep the secret, or he would turn to stone. The Dragon King suddenly decided to bury Lagang Village with the dunes, and Detso saw this in the mirror, informing the villagers. After the villagers left the village, the village was buried by wind and sand at night, and Detso also turned to stone. The Lagang Village villagers resettled near the dunes and named the new place Sangpa Village, meaning 'secret village' to commemorate Detso's revelation of the secret.
