Xitang Town, located in the junction of Zhejiang Province, Jiaxing City, Jiaxian County, the Three Provinces of Jiangnan. Formerly known as Xiaotang and Pingchuan, it is 10 kilometers from Jiaxian City. It is one of the six ancient water towns of Jiangnan, a millennium-old water town of Wu culture.

A living millennium-old ancient town! This is one of Xitang's promotional slogans. It is evident that small houses still exist and live here by the bridges and by the stream.
Living by the river, enjoying the utmost happiness! The famous attraction of Xitang, the Long Corridor, is said to have originated during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Because it often rains in Jiangnan, a story passed down is that a beggar once sheltered under the eaves of a shopkeeper’s house in Xitang Ancient Town during a rainstorm. The shopkeeper kindly allowed the beggar to enter, but the beggar refused. So the shopkeeper took a bamboo curtain and hung it under the eaves! The next day, after the beggar left, he left a couplet on the column in front of the door. The corridor provided shelter from the wind and rain, and good fortune came to the well-meaning households. The shopkeeper then found people to build the corridor to the river, and his business naturally improved, and other merchants gradually began to build it too! Until today’s Long Corridor!
