Far Eastern Leopard About to Turn 17, Egg-Sized Tumor Appears on Forelimbs, Veterinarians Successfully Remove It
Far Eastern Leopard is about to turn 17, but a tumor the size of an egg appeared on its forelimbs, 5 veterinarians worked together to remove it
Far Eastern Leopards are also known as Northeast Leopards or Amur Leopards, living in the Russian Far East and Northeast China, with only about 100 wild remaining, which is the rarest subspecies on earth. Recently, a Far Eastern Leopard living in Canada’s Magnetic Hill Zoo experienced surgery, and veterinarians helped it remove a ‘egg-sized’ tumor.

This Far Eastern Leopard is named Tusi, female, although she is already 16 years old and high in age, she still looks majestic and fierce with piercing eyes, ‘appearance’ is top-notch, she is the zoo’s darling.
As early as 2018, the zoo staff discovered that a tumor appeared on her left forelimb, but at that time the tumor was very small and was not paid attention to by the veterinarians.
Since 2020, the tumor on Tusi’s left forelimb has grown rapidly, which quickly attracted the attention of the staff. At the same time, the staff noticed that her coat was dull and her mental state was not good, looking very poor in health. So the zoo quickly organized a veterinary team to consult, and they made a preliminary judgment on the nature of the tumor: they believed that this unidentified tumor was likely a fat tumor, and it only needed to be removed by surgery.

In mid-February 2020, a surgical team of 5 professional veterinarians completed the surgery. They performed anesthesia on this Far Eastern Leopard to prevent it from waking up unexpectedly during the surgery; then it took about 50 minutes to successfully remove the tumor the size of an egg on her left forelimb. After the surgery, they also conducted a comprehensive physical examination of Tusi, and found a small tumor near her spine, as well as a hole on one of her teeth. ‘Time does not favor anyone,’ time will not spare anyone, including a leopard, Far Eastern Leopard Tusi’s health problems frequently appear, probably because she is too old.
Now, two weeks have passed since the surgery of the Far Eastern Leopard Tusi, and she is in the recovery stage, and her wound has basically healed. Her mental state has gradually recovered to her former vitality, which makes the zoo staff very happy. This is undoubtedly a happy thing, because two months later, the Far Eastern Leopard Tusi can greet her 17th birthday healthily.
