In the Matamata swamp, the leaf turtle is considered one of the most hidden masters. In a motionless state, it resembles a fallen leaf, therefore it has the nickname 'leaf turtle'. Matamata means 'kill' in Spanish, so its name became Matata due to the location.
Just like large crocodiles, Matata has red and black varieties. Red Matata is cheap, but the color of the abdomen may be more monotonous, so the price is relatively cheap. Turtle friends don't really breed it much. Compared to red Matata, black Matata is the more excellent one of the two, and is now a very common variety. But compared to personality, I personally feel that black Matata is not as good as red Matata. Black Matata is like a big crocodile, and red Matata is like a small crocodile. Highly aquatic turtles, a stagnant pond, algae is inevitable. It seems that the carapace cannot be wiped off, and there is always a fishy smell
Of course, the appearance is really hard to say. Triangular heads, long noses and two whiskers, plus a mysterious smile, are a little off-putting
Water quality is an important test item for raising Matata turtles. Because Matata's original environment is in shallow swamps, so the water level should be set to cover the turtle's body, and the turtle should stand up just to expose its nose to breathe. The color of the water is not the cleaner the better, but the muddier the Matata likes, of course, muddiness is not dirty, it may be the mud on the bottom or the humus, definitely not excretion. So the water body should be muddy, but not dirty. Another important thing is that Matata doesn't like sunlight. Although all things grow by relying on the sun, for Matata, the effect of the sun is very small, because Matata's eyes are very small, and they are very sensitive to light, so they cannot be exposed to sunlight, otherwise it will cause irreversible damage. This is very suitable for today's society, where housing is tight and distances are close with no sunlight

In feeding, you need to put in some effort. Matata only eats live food.
