Playing in the Snow! Chinese White-throated Ducks Appear in Jilin Changbai Mountain
Once again, spring has arrived, and many bird species have begun their migration journey. In Jilin’s Changbai Mountain, the Chinese White-throated Duck, known as the ‘bird among pandas,’ has arrived.
On the 15th, wildlife photographer Pu Longguo captured spring-returning Chinese White-throated Ducks in the headwaters of the Head River within the Changbai Mountain National Nature Reserve.

The Chinese White-throated Duck originated over 10 million years ago, it is a Chinese endemic species. Due to its extremely small population, it is known as the ‘bird among pandas.’ They are very picky about their living environment, and Changbai Mountain’s excellent environment and dense forests are their ideal habitat and one of their primary breeding grounds. They typically travel in family groups and hunt fish by diving.
