Hengyang, March 27th news:Recently, staff of the Yuegang National Nature Reserve Administration discovered a rare Sunbird with a fork tail while conducting daily animal monitoring and patrol work. This discovery is a new record for Yuegang, adding a new member to the reserve's bird catalog.
The Sunbird with a fork tail is very beautiful, with rich bird colors and melodious singing. The male adult has green color on its crown to its nape and tail feathers, with a metallic sheen, changing to blue-purple depending on the angle of view, brilliant and colorful. It has a slender and curved beak, feeding on nectar, is like a 'moonlit old man' with wings, acting as a bridge to connect flowers, spreading pollen, and is known as 'the eastern hummingbird'.
The photo shows a male Sunbird with a fork tail, about 11 centimeters long, frequently hopping on branches. A Grey-faced buzzard-cuckoo also appeared in the shot, and the two birds sang together, making the valley lively for a time.
Sunbirds have high requirements for the ecological environment, primarily feeding on nectar, which helps to spread pollen and plays an important role in maintaining the ecological balance of the Yuegang local forest system. In the next step, the Yuegang National Nature Reserve Administration will continue to increase monitoring and patrol efforts, further understand the distribution and survival status of Sunbirds with a fork tail, and provide a better living environment for Sunbirds with a fork tail.
