Berlin Zoo Visitor Numbers Set Record Last Year

German Huarenjie reports: In March 2019, visitors first saw the offspring of polar bears at the Friedrichsfelde Zoo. Since then, visitors have flocked to the zoo. Last year, the zoo’s ticket sales alone increased by approximately one-third compared to 2018.
Last year, Zon, the Berlin Zoo and Aquarium had a total of 5.5 million visitors, setting a record for the zoo’s history!
The adorable twins were born on August 31st. These panda siblings (nicknamed Pit and Paule) only made their public debut in January of this year, but Berliners have long been curious.
Berlin Zoo Director Andreas Knieriem (54) said: “The 2019 visitor record not only makes us proud but also confirms in an extraordinary way our efforts to date.”
This year’s big news: Large cat species will return to the Alfred Brehm building, which has been renovated, and the new predator house will also open by the end of 2020.
