World Wildlife Day: Update Wildlife Protection List as Soon as Possible
Biodiversity ZoneWorld Wildlife Day: Update Wildlife Protection List as Soon as PossibleToday is the seventh World Wildlife Day, with the theme 'Protecting All Life on Earth.' In China, the 'List of Key National Protected Wild Animals' and the 'List of Wild Animals with Important Ecological, Scientific and Social Value in Terrestrial China' are the main basis for wildlife protection. However, since their release, only the former was adjusted in 2003, while the latter has never been updated. More than 130 species of bats and 5 species of marmots have not appeared on the list, and these two groups are the main carriers of 2003 SARS and 2019 plague and coronaviruses, respectively. The lack of protection basis makes public health safety face a significant risk.
